Cleaning with Essential Oils now Spring has sprung.

As the cold, dark days of winter are coming to an end, the arrival of spring stirs that age-old spring cleaning itch inside us.
Enlisting the help of Essential Oils and a few simple tips means you can embrace your inner ‘neat freak’ and freshen up your home with natural alternatives that work.

The Essential Oils I find most useful for household cleaning are:

Lemon: Along with its fresh, uplifting scent Lemon’s antibacterial and antiseptic properties make it a great addition to any cleaning blend.

Tea Tree combined with Fragonia: This dynamic duo are great air and surface sanitisers, plus they work well to combat mold and mildew as well as musty smells.

Pine: As well as its clean fresh smell, Pine is an effective disinfectant and deodoriser.

Lavender: Has purifying and anti bacterial properties that make it a spring-cleaning must, plus although we prize its beautiful aroma Moths loathe it. So it will deter their arrival or even get rid of these loathsome pests if they are already in residence.

Peppermint: Acts as an air antiseptic and purifier and has excellent antibacterial properties, combined with a fresh invigorating scent.

Here are my three for the price of 2 tips for using Essential Oils to freshen up your home this spring.

Protect & Breathe Wardrobe Spray.
Spring is the time of year when I go through my wardrobe and donate anything I haven’t worn in over a year. Wardrobes are one of those dark, forgotten places, where air can easily get stale, which is where my Protect and Breathe Spray comes in. First and foremost I use it to protect my clothes from Moths. But it also fills my closet with wonderful fresh calming aromas, that’s where the Breathe part comes in, for those moments of panic, when you are convinced you have absolutely nothing to wear for that upcoming special occasion! It’s easy simply take a 200ml spray bottle add a tablespoon of baking soda and top up with warm previously boiled water and shake. The magic touch add 5 drops each of; Lavender, Lemon, Fragonia and Tea Tree Essential Oils and more shaking

Can’t beat Carpet Cleaner & Deodoriser.
This natural carpet cleaner and deodoriser is quick and easy to prepare and will help to neutralize and eliminate odors, clear the air of impurities and freshen your room. All you need is 2 cups of Baking Soda and 10 drops each of Lavender, Peppermint and Pine. Mix the ingredients and sprinkle half of it over your carpet. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and then vacuum as normal. Always test a small patch of carpet in an out of the way place, before trying this on your whole carpet, just in case.Same goes for your mattress.

Mattress Makeover.
Perceived wisdom is that you’re supposed to clean your mattress once a month. For me it’s a spring fling thing. So this is what you do with the other half of your Carpet Cleaner, more sprinkling this time over your mattress. Once again leave it for 5 minutes and then use all those vacuum attachments that you’re not quite sure what to do with to clean your mattress of the dust mites, dirt and dead skin cells that have accumulated since last spring. The final touch is a spritz with that oh so versatile Protect and Breathe Spray, guaranteed to fill your 2018 with the sweetest of dreams.
