The Magic of Touch

The Magic of Touch

Having time at home has made me think about the magic of Touch and how much I miss being able to greet someone by clasping their hand or giving them a hug. Social distancing is really important in keeping us safe and we must follow Government advice but Covid-19 has highlighted how very important Touch is to our emotional wellbeing.

Touch was never meant to be a luxury.

So lets see just how remarkable Touch is.

Touch

is the first sense to develop in the womb it has a critical influence on how babies develop.

Touch

Is the link between the world around us and our brains.

Touch

Releases the body’s natural ‘feel good chemicals’ endorphins and oxytocin.

Touch

Can reduce stress and even pain. Studies have shown that simply holding a loved ones hand can deactivate the stress-related regions of our brains.

Touch

Is healing. Touch between mammals can act as a natural painkiller.

Touch

Is a basic human need, without it we experience ‘skin hunger’ or what neuroscientists call  ‘affection deprivation’.

Touch

Lifts our mood, helps us feel more relaxed and reduces our levels of stress and anxiety.

Touch

Is truly life enhancing.
